Summary of Attractions:

Maasai Mara Game Reserve is an extension of the Serengeti National Reserve in Tanzania. It is not the largest park in Kenya, but probably the most famous. The entire area of the park is nestled within the enormous Great Rift Valley that extends from the Mediterranean Sea to South Africa. The terrain is primarily open grassland with clusters of acacia tree. Wildlife tends to be most concentrated in the western border in the Oloololo escarpment because the swampy ground means that access to water is always good and human disruption is usually minimal.

Lake Naivasha: This is the highest of all the Rift Valley Lakes at 1880 m above sea level. Being a fresh water lake, it has the greatest number of residents living on its shore. It has become the center of the booming horticultural export business which is one of Kenya's leading foreign exchange earner. This area is a birdwatcher's paradise with over 450 species of recorded birds in the area, which are attracted by the yellow-barked acacia trees and blue water lilies. A small islet on the lake is home to a number of wildlife. Visitors can enjoy a boat ride safari as they view wildlife and birds from the tranquil lake. A private ranch (Kongoni Game Sanctuary) is located in the area which is a home to lions, leopards, cheetah and some translocated Gravy's zebras.
